Sheila Turner is the owner of From the Top Studio of Dance. A life-long Newtown Square resident and MN Graduate, Sheila has been active in the dance community for over 30 years and received her training by former Radio City Rockette, Linda Johnston. Over the years, she has been the recipient of numerous performance & choreography awards on the regional and national level. She currently teaches dance to physically and mentally challenged students through 5 different associations in Delaware County. She earned her degree in Speech Communications from Kutztown University and has extensive sales and business experience as well. Miss Sheila understands the importance of continuing dance education and travels each year with her instructors to study in NYC with the best of the best at the Dance Teacher Summit.
Tammy Held received her B.A. in Dance Performance from Point Park University, where she also performed with Attack Theatre, and is the only teacher we have NOT from Delco! (we must really like her). She was a member of the Western PA Performance Arts Company and has danced in competitions since age 6, winning numerous awards on the regional & national levels. Miss Tammy has been teaching at From the Top since 2005. She enjoys teaching all ages and levels, coaches our award-winning competition team and helps teach our Life Skills mentally and physically challenged students. In addition to her extensive dance and training background, she continues her education annually by attending the Dance Teacher Summit with her fellow From the Top teachers.
Kitty McNichols is a life-long dancer, graduate of Marple Newtown High School and has been with From the Top since we opened in 2004! In addition to From the Top, Miss Kitty has spent 15 years dancing at Fitzpatrick Dancers in Philadelphia and 2 years on the Philadelphia Flyers Delta Dental Ice Team. She is trained in ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, and pointe. Miss Kitty also proudly coaches our award-winning Competition Team. She continues her dance training with us each year at the Dance Teacher Summit in New York City. Miss Kitty volunteers her time by helping to choreograph for the St. Annie’s annual production, Marple Presbyterian’s Strawberry Festival, and the annual Newtown Square Tree Lighting. She also helps raise money for ALSF, Bringing Hope Home, and The Moyer Foundation.
Kelsey Ratay is so excited to be starting her 7th year with From the Top. She is a Marple Newtown graduate and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from West Chester University. She is currently the middle school math coach for a local charter school. Kelsey has been trained in Ballet, Tap, Jazz and Hip Hop. She teaches all levels and ages here at the studio and continues her education through our yearly training at the Dance Teacher Summit in New York City. Kelsey also has created our Broadway Jazz program which has been running for four years, and continues to grow each year. She also volunteers her time to choreograph for the St. Anastasia’s Annual Play, the Newtown Square Tree Lighting, the Strawberry Festival, and many other community events.
Katie Borsuk returns to From the Top this year after a brief leave to spend some time studying at San Diego State University. She must have missed us (and Wawa) so much, that she decided to come back and finish up pursuing her degree in Graphic Design at Rosemont College. We are so excited to have her back! Miss Katie has been a From the Top dancer since 2004 and has worked her way up to assistant teacher first, then an instructor in 2012. She loves working with the little ones and shares her enthusiasm for dance with them through fun, interactive classes. Miss Katie also helps raise money for many charitable organizations FTT supports and volunteers her time to these worthy events. Her continuing dance education is important to her, so she joins us each year in New York City to attend the Dance Teacher Summit.
Kaitlyn Levy is a graduate of Marple Newtown High School and Shippensburg University where she earned her Bachelor’s of Arts and Sciences in Social Studies Education with a Minor in Disability Studies. Miss Kaitlyn is currently studying at West Chester University for her Master’s Degree in Education and just recently accepted a teaching position right here in Marple Newtown High School. She has been a From the Top dancer since 2007, has worked her way up through assisting and now is teaching her own classes. Miss Kaitlyn loves working with students of all ages and levels, helping them to discover and learn all styles of dance. She continues her dance training by attending the Dance Teacher Summit in New York City with her fellow FTT teachers. She also volunteers her time to the many studio events that support local charities.
Kaitlin Battiste is a life-long Newtown Square resident, Marple Newtown graduate, and is currently pursuing a degree in English at West Chester University, where she is also active in the University Dance Company. She has been with From the Top since 2004 and began assisting in 2008. Miss Kaitlin has been teaching her own classes for the past four years and really enjoys working with dancers of all ages. Miss Kaitlin continues to take classes in Ballet, Tap, Jazz and Hip Hop, and joins us each year to study with the top dancers and choreographers in New York City at the Dance Teacher Summit. She also volunteers her time to support the many charitable organizations that FTT supports. She looks forward to sharing her love of dance with her From the Top students!
Stacy Hancher is so excited to join the From the Top family. Stacy graduated from West Chester East High School and holds a B.F.A. in Dance Education from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. She has been teaching for two decades, has trained with the Chester County Ballet Company, Philly Jazz, and the Starlight Tap Ensemble, performing throughout the Tri-state area both competitively and recreationally. Stacy loves teaching dancers of all ages and nothing makes her happier than to see her students grow and achieve their own personal goals. Originally from Drexel Hill, Stacy is now an honorary South Philadelphian and volunteers her time to her community as the neighborhood block captain. Besides dancing, Stacy also loves hanging out with her Welsh Corgi mix rescue dog, Ceci.
